Tamim Iqbal, who had seemed to be struggling in the last match, played a lot smoother innings on Saturday compared to his last match. The Bangladeshi batsman played with more confidence this time around and ended up for 55 on 47 balls.
Earlier in the evening, Qalandars made a forgettable start when their star batsman Chris Gayle’s stump was cleaned up by Junaid Khan in the very first ball of the day. They lost two more wickets in quick succession and despite some little try of rebuilding the innings by their middle order followed, after 20 overs they were able to post only 117 runs on the board.
Scaling down an easy target, Zalmi opener Tamim and Mohammad Hafeez quickly made their intention clear that they were in a hurry to go home. Though Hafeez looked a bit edgy earlier in his innings and was reprieved once on 10, Tamim was in the business right from the onset.
Tamim displayed a mature show, and smashed the ball more confidently. Unlike his partner, he didn’t count on big shots only but took quick singles and translated those one and a half runs to twos, which made his innings a more pleasant one to watch altogether.
Tbe left arm opener completed his second fifty on the trot in the 15th over from just 42 balls maintaining a healthy strike rate. And the milestone became even more meaningful because it came of the bowling off Chris Gayle, who produced a juicy full toss for Tamim to help him take the single smoothly.
Tamim carried through the run chase, stayed till the end with a solid 55 to lead his team to an emphatic 9-wicket victory. Tamim’s 47-ball knock was studded with seven shots to hit the fence. He so far scored 106 runs in the competition, which makes him the second highest scorer of the PSL. He is second only to Luke Wright, who has 133 runs to his name.
