Why Matrix Is One of The Best Sci-fi Movies of All Time

Some movies don’t age. The Matrix from the Wachowski sisters is one of them. I have watched this movie a few times before.

The first time I watched it was on BTV with a Bangla dubbing. However, I couldn’t complete the movie because it was late at night.

The second time I watched it on a DVD disk. I was blown away. The third time I watched it on blu ray. The Matrix, which came out two decades ago, is still very relevant today. It’s still astonishing how they made this movie in 1999 when technology wasn’t advanced as of today.

As a tech enthusiast – The Matrix has always stayed with me because of its futuristic story telling in a very believable way. The distinct look, vibe and atmosphere (tinted green color, urban isolated high tech environment) is truly its own.

This movie has inspired countless movies with its action sequences. The bullet time scene has been an iconic scene since the first day. The effect was immediately copied everywhere in movies and on TV – hell, even commercials were doing it – and was eventually absorbed into the standard language of special effects. For better or for worse, “bullet time” reinvigorated the genre and shattered the clichés for a whole bunch of new ones to come.

Dialogues like “Red pill or blue pill” has made its way to the pop culture. The Matrix is still one of the best movies ever made. I’m glad the series is getting a fourth movie with the original cast. I’ll be waiting.

A timeless classic of modern cinema.
