News: Testing Formalin in Just 5 Seconds And It’s Super Cheap!

A researcher at Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) claims that he has invented a cheap and effective way to detect formalin and other harmful chemicals in food/fish effectively and under 10 minutes. What’s great? It’s super cheap. You can test formalin in just 5 seconds for 1 taka!

The researcher, inventor of the effective way of detecting Formalin in a short period of time, Md Faruq Bin Hossain Yamin, says that his unique color reaction examining costs just Tk 1. (YES, you’re seeing it right! 1 TAKA)

Testing Formalin in 5 Seconds

He said two solutions  will be used for the test. They are

  • complex-1 and
  • complex-2

“It is possible to trace formalin and other harmful chemicals within five seconds using these solutions,” he told.

He, nevertheless, refused to tell publicly the names of the chemicals which are used to manufacture the solutions. They are intellectual properties of an institution.

Yamin exoressed his vision that the retail and wholesale businessmen would be encouraged to adopt the system as it cost only Tk 1 per test.

Mr. Yamin, the scientist told that the available instruments for such tests are expensive and often produces controversial results.

Presently, 87 kit boxes, supplied by the food ministry, are used to trace the presence of formalin. This is not enough to meet the requirements.

He said for the tests, a food item will have to be placed in clear water. From there, a single drop of water has to be mixed with the ‘complex solutions’.

“The complex solution will change colour in presence of formalin or other harmful chemicals,” he said.

“Otherwise, the solutions will retain its usual pink colour.”

“With this technology, it will be possible to shun the use of chemicals in food items within two years,”

So we really hope retailers and businessmen will contact Yamin & will produce the complex solutions for the general people. The sooner it is available for public, the better it is. Isn’t it will be great to go to baazar and test the fishes whether it is formalin free or not. People will only buy the fish as well as other food products if Yamin’s test give a negative result! Can’t wait to see this product on market for general availability. But this kind of project often gets stuck up because of proper investment. I really hope, for Yamin, it won’t happen. But who knows? In a country like ours, everything can happen.
